Collect Stamps and Exchange for Prizes

Hey guys,

From time to time I’ll be posting stamps depicting my book covers here and over on Facebook. Come November, you can exchange four different stamps for a free e-novella (Hidden, Accused or In Love With a Shadow) or seven different stamps for a free ebook (Guarded, Bound, Moon Promise, and after November 20, Divide and Conquer). Happy hunting!

Simply send an email with the stamps to ireader@carmen-fox.com and let me know which book you’d like. You can redeem your stamps from November 1 through December 20, 2018.

And to kick off the fun, here’s the first one.

FREE NOVELLA COMING AT YA

Yes, folks. Trapped is done.

Trapped

And phew. I’m so relieved. You know that feeling where you’re too close to something to be objective? I always get that way about books. My writing partner won’t actually engage in any ‘there, there’ activity anymore, because she knows my tendency to panic and my bouts of self-doubt too well.

I sent my novella out to a few early readers, and the response has been great. I’m so freaking relieved. Just because something will be free doesn’t mean I want to skimp on quality.

All that’s left to do is to format it, upload it, and then send out my newsletter so that my lovely subscribers can get started.

What else is new? Well, I’m seriously excited about the novella I’m writing right now. This one’s going to be a little longer. The length of a novella is sometimes planned, which means it pays to be concise and frugal with the details. But on this occasion, it is the plot that determines the number of words. What’s exciting is that the plot is a little different from things I’ve tried before.

And I gotta tell you, I love these characters. My lead character is one tough lady. I mean seriously tough. I’m about a third of the way through now.

Of course I can’t wait to start my next full-length book. It’s going to be so much fun!

Hmm. Whoever decided that putting 24 hours in a day was enough? People without ambition, that’s who. Or maybe people who have a…what’s it called again?…oh yes, people who have a LIFE!

Get Your Free Audiobook

The Guarded audiobook is out now. And you can grab your own copy totally FREE, courtesy of Audible.

The first time I listened to the finished audiobook, I was surprised. Writing Guarded, I heard my characters’ voices, their intonations. And then along came a narrator who breathed new life into these familiar characters, gave them different voices and different intonations. Once I cast off my expectations, I got oodles of enjoyment out of this “new” story that was being told to me.

I really hope so do you. If you’ve never listened to an audiobook before, you’re missing out. I’ve loved audiobooks since I was a girl, when my mom used to bring home tapes of fairytales and children’s stories, which my sister and I listened to in the evenings.

Lives are busier now than ever, so supplementing your reading with audiobooks is the 21st century way. Stephen Fry’s narration of Harry Potter is a masterpiece, and I’ve enjoyed Doctor Who, Jim Butcher, Patrick Rothfuss and many others on audiobook over the last decade, be it at home, traveling, or while commuting to work.

So if you’re ready to jump on the audiobook train, click here. Welcome to the club!

A word about Audible: They’re an Amazon company, so you know you’re not going to be spammed and that your details are safe.

PS: my novella is nearly done. Don’t forget to subscribe to pick up your free copy.

GUARDED #Giveaway

Pick Your Man

Lovers of Guarded

Who is your Guarded man of the year?

Being Ivy sucks most of the time, but there are some perks to her life. The crop of men vying for her attention is one of them.

On December 26, one of you will win an Amazon GC worth $20. To enter simply answer this question. If you were Ivy and had to pick, which guy would you a) marry, b) kiss and c) kill, and why? I made my choice when I wrote the book. Now it’s your turn.

Simply post your answers here. Good luck.

GIVEAWAY – Free card game

Free Giveaway to Celebrate my First Publishing Contract

image

Thank you to everyone who took part. The winner has been notified, and can expect to receive the card game within a month or so. To make the time go faster, I’m also throwing in a $30 Amazon gift card.

It has been more than a month now since I signed my first book contract with Champagne Book Group for my book Divide and Conquer. When I found the e-mail in my inbox, I was totally thrilled. Scale from one to ten, I’d give my excitement a solid ten. Obviously.

And yet I didn’t get the chance to celebrate. Revel in well-meant back slaps and a chorus of ‘congratulations.’ Or, you know, a ‘well done’ here or there. It’s too late to whip out the champagne, so I thought I would do a fun little giveaway. A kind of Easter egg hunt. Somewhere on my website, embedded on a page or in a posts, is a green box that tells you exactly what you have to do to be in with a chance of winning. The winner’s name will be drawn at random on July 4, 2014.
imageSo, what’s the prize? I want to combine my love of inventing games with this celebratory giveaway and offer an extremely limited promo copy of one of my most popular games, a math-based card game called Genius (see picture on the right to get a glimpse of what the promo box will look like). I will produce no more than five copies carrying my promo banner.

Want to know more about Genius?

Educational games are often pretty heavy on the ‘educational’ and light on the ‘game.’ Not Genius!

Perfect for anyone who wishes to put their brain cells through boot camp or their palms through a gleeful rub, Genius is a simple card game in the tradition of UNO and mau mau, where players must get rid of their cards before their opponents do. You discard cards by performing simple chains of mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

An assortment of chance cards add a layer of excitement. Or irritation. Kind of depends on the situation.

Fun for 2-5 players of all ages (assuming they can add up to at least 20), this game offers everyone the chance to be crowned Genius for the day.

imageI’ve made a special promo version carrying my website banner along the sides of the tuckbox (see pic on the right). Oh, and the instructions come in English and German.

The cards will be professionally produced by The Gamecrafter, but bear in mind I’m not a professional games designer. Also, since it will be printed on a one-by-one basis, delivery might take about a month. The game has proven incredibly popular with kids, parents and teachers, although I admit to spending many a lunchtime playing it with co-workers. Because math aside, it’s simply a fun game. It has not as yet been publicly available, because I’m concentrating on writing at the moment, but it’s due to be published, in a plain white tuckbox, in summer 2015.

Enjoy.
